Rating: **** (4 1/2)
I absolutely loved this novel! I really don't have anything bad to say about it at all. I gave this a 4 1/2 out of by stars for only two reasons.
1) I wish that Alyssa figured more out on her own. Every single task that was placed before her was rarely solved by her. It was either Jeb or Morpheus doing all of the work.
2) The first time I picked this up, I put it down. I don't think this was because I didn't like it but rather that it does take a bit to really get into it. It is a very strange novel and that, to me, is what gives it it's charm. I think that people go into it expecting it to be clearly the Alice story but quickly find out that that isn't the case with this novel. I did the mistake of doing just that the first time I picked it up.
HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL ALICE STORY AT ALL!!!
Yes, it has the beloved Wonderland we all know and it features many of Carrols characters such as the Red Queen, The White Rabbit, Hatter and the Hair with their dormouse, the White Queen, the Twiddles. But they aren't anything like the original Alice. It is much closer to Tim Burtons movie with many more twists.
The second time I picked up the novel, I absolutely just couldn't put it down and I devoured it in one day. I absolutely love the characters and their relationship with each other. *Yes there is a love triangle*. I got the intimacy that I wanted so bad in RoseBlood! I love that you could see the chemistry between the couples as they go on this journey. Their past being shown in the present. It was beautiful, magical, and sometimes even a bit creepy. I absolutely loved A.G. Howards writing style and the creative twists that she put on a story that is so close to my heart. This book was fantastic and I definitely plan to continue on with the series. I recommend to anyone that wants a fun unique read that will take you on a journey you won't expect.
