Growing up we are shied away from really looking at the darker parts of who we are. We are encouraged to just embrace the happy go lucky, sun shine and rainbows aspect of us. The darker parts pushed into a small box at the very bad or our psyche. We are taught that emotions such as anger, sadness, jealousy, fear, guilt, anxiety, etc. are all negative and therefore should be punished and avoided. Those who are drawn to the darker aspects of life are labeled as misfit, outcast, weirdo, and psychotic. When in reality they are some of the most sane people you will me.
To act as if our shadows don't exist and aren't a large part of who we are is doing us a great disservice. There is so much growth to be found in the darkness. Everything is a balance and you cannot truly appreciate the light without delving into the depths of the dark. When you get acquainted with your shadow you will find that you can move together in harmony. You will gain a deeper understanding of why you are the way you are and how to cope with different obstacle that once had you feel powerless and overwhelmed. You gain a new perspective. For me, my shadow work has only really begun. My spiritual journey has taught me so much just in the short time that I have really been studying. I know that I have a ways to go and so much to face that I myself have just been pushing deeper and deeper within me. One thing I can say now though is that just by acknowledging that my shadows are really and just as beautiful and divine as my light. I feel more balanced and powerful then I ever have. By exploring my own darkness, my light has gotten brighter and I can't wait to see the magic that I can do.
